https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-64421566

They are making it up as they go along

Its not surprising as ground was broken too early just to push to the project through

Crossrail on steroids

Prelude to cancellation without losing face?

They may just add a couple more lines from Paddington to Old Oak Common and claim full delivery to London that way.

Re: HS2 may not run through to central London - report
There's too much completed infrastructure through the Chilterns for it to be curtailed - more likely to revert to a second West Coast mainline with stops at newly created 'new towns' along the the route, or perhaps more of a priority for freight services as they currently struggle for decent access to the existing west Coast mainline.

They plan to use the Elizabeth line to get the HS2 terminal which means more fares

And 2033 is a reach as well

Hunt: HS2 will go to central London
In the last few moments, Jeremy Hunt has reiterated that HS2 will go all the way to London Euston station as planned.

It follows reports that the high-speed rail line may no longer reach central London.

"I don't see any conceivable circumstance in which that would not end up at Euston," he says.

Re: HS2 may not run through to central London - report
It may well eventually reach Euston, but I suspect the opening of the Old Oak Common to Euston part of the line won't actually happen until about 2040 following push-back after push-back, so, as stated already, passengers will be expected to use the Elizabeth Line for that part of their journey.

There will be no saving in overall end-to-end journey times unless and until that leg is complete.

I suspect that the whole country knows more about HS2 than Jeremy Hunt.

what Toe Rag said

used to enjoy a pint in the Bree Louise, at the time the only decent boozer near Euston

Euston tap is a reasonable replacement though.

Its not like a politician "Massage" the truth especially when they are likely to be of office in 18 months time

Re: HS2 may not run through to central London - report
It would probably have made much more sense to run it down to the old Kensington Olympia Station - I think that was the original plan over 100 years ago but it never quite happened due to vested interests.

Sounds familiar doesn't it?

Re: HS2 may not run through to central London - report
Stoke on Trent is the 10th largest city in England and an absolute 100% khazi.

HS2 is supposed to be revitalising the north of England.

Why then will HS2 go straight through the middle of Stoke but not stop there?

The whole thing is madness.

Re: HS2 may not run through to central London - report
HS2 is/was never, ever, about improving the transport infrastructure in the UK or "levelling up" the north (of Watford).

It was all about resolving the fact that the UK is/was probably the only country in the civilised world without a (proper) High Speed railway.

That bit of track from the Channel Tunnel is simply a branch line out of Lille - the modern day equivalent of the Titfield Thunderbolt - a fact (FACT) that politicians and (senior) civil servants detested being pointed out when the subject of transport ever came up at international meetings.
